Olivia

Olivia laid on her bed, running the conversation she had just had with Zac through her mind. Why in the world did he want to talk about fated mates? She was pretty sure that wasn’t anything that most men talked about. It was a subject for writers, singers, and poets.

What was he trying to tell me or did he just bring it up because we were talking about an arranged mating with Declan?

She stared up at the ceiling in her room, her eyes tracing the circular patterns. What would she have said if he had told her that he thought she was his fated mate?

“I guess it would make sense. There is something about his scent, his essence, that has a hold on me. I never meant to get involved with him, yet something pulled me to him,” she told her stuffed bear. “I’m not in love with him, but I do care about him. I could be falling in love with him, because leaving Angel’s Creek and never seeing him again would have hurt. I guess I’ll just have to wait and see where this journey takes us.”

Her bear silently agreed with her.

It took her a while, but she finally drifted off to sleep. The sunlight drifting through the slim opening in the curtains woke her up before her alarm did. She ate her usual breakfast of granola bars and bananas and then paced the room for a minute. She felt restless and called Jade.

“Jade, I was thinking about going for a run this morning before work,” Olivia said.

“I would love to go with you, but I promised my mother that I would take her to her doctor’s appointment.”

“Is everything okay?” Olivia asked.

“Yeah. She is a diabetic and has to go in for checkups. I’ll see you at work.”

Olivia walked around her room a couple more times. She thought about calling Zac, but she decided against it.

“He is an alpha and likely has a lot more important things to do than run with me,” she reasoned. “I’ll just go alone. I have a great sense of direction, and I’ve gone alone before, so I’ll be fine.”

A sense of peace fell over her as soon as she stowed her clothes in the tree and shifted. It was a beautiful day out. The air smelled so sweet. The sun was warm on her white fur. The birds were singing, and the insects were talking.

Olivia was amazed at the million different shades of green there were. The leaves on one tree were a different shade than the leaves on another, which were different from the green on the pines.

She meandered through the woods and found herself back at the creek. After taking a long drink, she laid down for a minute, content to simply enjoy the forest.

Olivia was startled when a woman walked up to her and said, “It’s a beautiful day out, isn’t it?”

Normally, Olivia would have heard the woman coming or at least felt her presence, but she seemed to have come out of nowhere.
